ive done a lot fo electrician work and we use those canals with the lids on and they come with adhesive on it but they never get used by anyone around ehre as they never last more than 2 years when when/if you take it off, it might ruin the wall/wallpaper/paint.

I'm still looking for a cable management system that not only allows me to put cables out of sight, but to undo the management easily. Every current solution seems way too permanent and I rather have unsightly cables dangling around the whole place than having to crawl out of my wheelchair to the floor to get under the table, destroy single use cable ties and such, then replace them when I'm done moving or rewiring a device, which happens every week (or rather would happen, if I was ready to deal with the hassle). However you convinced me to give IKEA Signum a shot, so thanks! :)

Pro tip: drywall screws have a larger diameter thread than most normal anchor screws and work great for mounting cable channels into plaster or drywall. The smaller threads can more easily pull out whereas the drywall screws are more secure: its not a perfect solution, just more secure.

I usually just use velcro strips and a staple gun for underneath my desk. You can cut the velcro to the length you need, and the staples don't really leave marks in the wood.

Thanks Paul! Super useful video for me - cable management will be my next project and I've considered a few of these very products. Good thoughts on using screws instead of adhesive strips - a screw hole is much easier to patch than a 4 foot strip of paint ripped off the wall when you move out if you're a renter like me.

Watching you do this made me feel bad about my current desk cabling situation. So tomorrow, I have this job ahead of me, with slightly more cables due to surround sound system and TV and a desk that sadly does not lift. If I die, please have Steve from GM take me to Heaven. Because I don't quite fancy The Verge in Hell.

If anybody else is doing this, if you move your stuff around a lot or have to change any cables it's gonna be harder than before. The ikea rack under his desk (I use that along with velcro ties), if you wrap a cables around in there and then want to swap one of them out, you have to undo the ties holding your cables together and unwrap a bunch of cables out of the way on the ikea mount. eventually I used less Velcro ties and didn't wrap any cables around the ends of the ikea mount, I just ran then through and looped them around on the inside.

You keep talking about how rough your walls are and not being able to use the adhesive, but you could have run that thin raceway along the bottom of your baseboard and it wouldn't have been as noticeable. They also have replacement baseboard with cable raceways built in.

reminds me that I need to rework my cable management in both my living room and our computer area. going to replace a couple of the power strips with ones that include usb charging, will get rid of wall warts. replace monitor stands with arms, mount power strip to wall as opposed to floating around on floor, install cable runs. wife might not like it at first, but will soon accept becuase we have no desire to move anytime soon so no need to worry about ripping that stuff down adn repairing screw holes. Anyway, great video, gives me some ideas and will make that a project to work on during my annual staycation while wife and kid are out of town.

Quick tip on adhesive if no one has offered it up. Before attaching to your clean smooth surface, use a lighter to warm/heat the adhesive (peel off the protector first) and you will have a MUCH stronger grip than just peeling and sticking.

I love it! I have one minor grudge though. That L-stand for the computers. I'd look into flipping it 90° clockwise, and having the almighty $10000 build with the back towards your desk, and your wifes pc place with the glass panel out, having the rear facing the wall corner. And that little box thingy on the outside of the pc, towards the rear. It's hard to explain properly, but I think you get the idea 🤗
