If you guys do an episode on thermal paste again see if you can do something off this: arxiv.org/pdf/1201.0796.pdf . It’s a paper obout the thermal conductivity of a graphene based paste, similar to icy diamonds idea. Very conductive electrically however.

I'm kinda disappointed you didn't try the silicone grease as it is, without the diamond powder, because before all this thermal paste crazyness the pure silicone grease was "the thermal paste". In all the electronics that was the only thermal conducting material between transistors, ic's and the heatsink (like 20+ years ago) and it worked fine. Of course modern compounds can do better. I think diamonds are not thermal conductive, or just a very little (I might be wrong, dunno), but I'm sure the dust just decreased the conductivity of the silicone.

When they say there's diamond in certain pastes they mean it is a molecular match. That's right, it's just good ol' carbon! Specifically they take waste carbon nanotube material and use that, strictly because carbon nanotubes are one of the best thermal conductors in existence yet they are very electrically insulating as well. Consider that nearly the entirety of a nanotube batch is waste particles and you get an excellent trash recycling industry!
